A beautiful day for a family
photo session at the beach.
Some photography sessions are less about posing and more about simply letting a family be exactly who they are and simply enjoy the day together. After the posed shots, I tell my families to forget I am here and just have fun playing at the beach
This one at Shell Beach in The Sea Ranch unfolded that way -- bare feet in the sand, small hands reaching for balance and parents moving instinctively between laughter and gentle herding. The ocean did what it always does here: steady, rhythmic and completely indifferent to our plans.
There were moments of stillness like sitting together on driftwood, the light soft and even and moments of pure motion, like tiny feet splashing at the shoreline and a perfectly timed lift that turned into laughter mid-air. Nothing forced. Nothing rushed. Just the natural joy and tenderness that comes with children and loving parents who are fully present.
Shell Beach is one of those places that encourages this kind of session. It’s open and quiet, with just enough texture of rock, water and sky to frame the story without competing with it. The late light wraps gently, the wind adds movement and suddenly the photographs feel less like portraits and more like memories.
